As the world struggles to come to grips with what has seemingly knocked us all sideways in one way or another, we at Yeotown are looking to how we can curate the character strengths of resilience, adaptability and self reflection to help navigate this curious time.
The COVID-19 threat is real. The Toilet Paper Monster is not. The latter is a made up fear that causes a hoarding mentality. It’s a type of fear that weakens our immune systems, creates an unhealthy disregard for our neighbor, and fosters panic where cool minds and warm hearts are needed to prevail. Perhaps this is Mother Nature’s way of telling us that on a macrocosmic level we need to slow down, take a better look at ourselves and greater care of our bodies and minds.
Our immune systems are reliant on much more than just our physical health. Fear and anxiety are powerful immunity suppressors. The best way to vaccinate against any virus, is to get as healthy as possible both mentally and physically. Cultivating healthier eating habits, learning about our gut health and its effect on our mental health, educating ourselves about exercise and the importance of nature and fresh air, and as importantly, adopting mindful ways to manage stress and fear. All of this is vital right now so that in the unfortunate instance we may catch something, we are strongly positioned to keep its symptoms at a minimum and fight it with greater speed and ease.
Yeotown is fortunate to be in an isolated, sparsely populated area of North Devon (no cases of corona here yet!) set against the backdrop of the beautiful English countryside, not far from the ocean and its fresh, healthy, revitalising air. We also only take 12 guests at a time – perfect for social distancing?! May we lean in together into the good thongs that remain at this time.
