Looking for a great alternative to serve at your next function for those wanting a non-alcoholic option? This spicy and fruity cocktail is a perfect holiday drink that will not only provide you the healthy benefits of ginger, cloves and cardomom but the combination of flavors can also readily accommodate add a dash of vodka or gin for those wanting a little something sassier!
Makes 2 large glasses
Ingredients:
6 whole cloves
2 teabags of your choice
2 cardamom pods
2 thin slices of ginger
1 cinnamon stick
zest of half an orange
A few sprigs of mint and a few berries for garnish
Choose a couple of fruit or herbal teas with citrus, spice and apple flavours; good combinations are Orange and Ginger, Chamomile and Spiced apple, Three Ginger and Cranberry & Apple.
You can make this in a cafetiere jug but a large teapot or a saucepan will serve equally well. For two large glasses, add the two tea bags of your choice, a cinnamon stick, two lightly crushed cardamom pods and 6 whole cloves. Then add two thin slices of ginger and a few twists of orange zest (removed with a potato peeler)
Cover with 700 ml of boiling water and brew for 10 mins.
Strain into a large jug. If you prefer a sweeter version, sweeten to taste with clear apple juice, about 150ml should do or to your taste.
Garnish with orange and lemon slices and a few berries and sprigs of mint.
Serve hot in a mug as a winter warmer or allow to cool and pour over ice if serving as a healthy cocktail!
