In the fast paced and hectic modern world that we find ourselves living in, it can be next to impossible to find time in our daily lives to concentrate on our health and wellbeing. This can lead to us carrying around unwanted extra weight and both our physical and mental health suffer because of this.
There are many options available for the busy individual to help improve their mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing but they don’t always work. There are endless reams of fad diets and super foods which magazines and “experts” tell us we should be eating. There is a plethora of fitness programmes and DVD’s all advertised as sure fire ways to help you improve your appearance and energy levels. Two of the most popular routes people choose to go down when looking to make a big change in their lives are weight loss boot camps and detox retreats. While both types of getaway aim to improve overall health and wellbeing they are very different from one another.
Weight loss boot camps
A weight loss boot camp can stretch from days to weeks with a focus on exercise, diet and nutrition. Participants are expected to complete daily regimented workouts combined with a strict calorie controlled diets. A weight loss retreat can be very effective for individuals who are looking to lose weight quickly and by leaving your comfort zone you are handing control to the camp coordinators who will organise and plan your meals and daily activities with the goal of significantly dropping the pounds.
Weight loss boot camps can be a success for those who want to see results quickly, however, these results may be harder to keep up once you return home to your normal routine. The environment in a weight loss boot camp is so far removed from that of your everyday life that any weight lost at one of these camps is likely to creep back on. The strict diet regime enforced on a weight loss boot camp is also going to be difficult to stick to once you’ve left. Without proper education and understanding about your own personal relationship with food you are likely to slip back into bad eating habits.
Detox retreats
Detox retreats focus less on the exercise part of weight loss and more on purifying your mind and body with the goal of returning to eating pure and natural foods. So much of the food and drink in our diets is now processed and filled with additives and this can have a damaging impact on the body and the mind. Detox retreats aim to help you get rid of all of the additives and impurities from your body with the goal of improving health and wellbeing through natural methods. Detox retreats also aim to clear and clarify the mind as well as the body and so they will often have an element of meditation and yoga as well as a focus on eating natural foods to flush out the pollution of additives and processed foods.
While you will come away from most detox retreats feeling revitalised and refreshed, with the demands of everyday life placed back upon you, you may find it difficult to stick to the natural diet recommended on the detox. Again, it is easy to slip back into old ways once you return home. Detox retreats are great ways to purify your body and mind but often miss the element of exercise which is vital in restoring good health and mental wellbeing.
